Course info
This is the module and course information for the full-time French and Russian course, the module structure may vary slightly for the part time version. Year 1: All students follow compulsory core language modules that concentrate on both written and spoken French. Students should take a minimum of 40 and a maximum of 60 credits of Russian (incl. 20 Language credits) with the balance made up from French. Year 2: Compulsory core French language modules build upon the work of the first year. Among modules available in the second year are ones on literature, from the Middle Ages to the present, the history and structure of the French Language, French Politics, French Canada, women's writing, French cinema and French media. Students take a minimum of 40 and a maximum of 60 credits of Russian (incl. 20 Language credits) (to amount to a minimum of 140 over the three academic years spent in Nottingham). The compulsory core language modules build on the work of the first year and students are then free to select other modules. Year 3 is spent abroad, divided between the two languages. Year 4: Students take two or three compulsory modules and may then select a further three of four modules in French. Final year modules are more specialised than earlier ones and offer a wide choice of topics on literature, from the Middle Ages to the present and contemporary language, French politics and society and French cultural studies. Students take a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 60 credits of Russian (incl. 20 Language credits with a minimum of ten credits in each semester). Final-year modules are more specialised and offer a range of topics on various aspects and periods of literature and language, both contemporary and historical, as well as modules designed to encourage independent study through projects or dissertations.
